William R. "Bob" Leighton's Obituary

William R. "Bob" Leighton of Watertown, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on
September 20, 2025, after a long illness.

Bob was the son of the late Robert P. and Gladys P. Leighton. He is survived by two sons, William and Christoper Todd and three sisters, Suzanne Anderson, Linda Mahoney and her husband Martin, and Debra Tirrell and her husband Ron, He is also survived by four nephews and three nieces. He leaves behind his many friends who helped him during his illness.

Bob was born at the Homestead, FL Air Force Base and lived most of his life in Brighton before moving to Watertown in his later years. Although he worked at various jobs during his lifetime as a truck driver and In the electrical field, he was most proud of his military service in the Marines, where he earned the rank of Seargent from 1974 to 1985. During his time in the Marines, he was stationed at Parris Island Marine Corp Base in South Carolina, Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and Okinawa Military Básé in Japan. He was awarded the good conduct medal and Rifle Expert Badge. After his discharge, he continued to serve in the Marine Corp Reserve. He was a former member of the Pvt. Shutt Detachment Marine Corps League in Watertown.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Bourne National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. in lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to Toys for Tots fund C/O Pvt. Charles J. Shutt Detachment, Marine Corps League, 215 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, MA 02472.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the David James Hospice at the VA hospital in Bedford and to Good Shepard Hospice for the compassion and care shown to Bob during his illness.
