Viola (Panagoplos) Duros

October 5, 1929 – May 19, 2026

Viola Duros, 96, of Winchester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. She was the devoted wife of the late Jack Duros, and loving mother of Perry, Anthony and his wife Renata, and Alan. She was the loving grandmother ofAlexia, Jacob and Alexander.

Viola was born in Salem on October 5, 1929, the first child ofthe late Helen (Metatos) Panagoplos of Stemnitsa, Arcadia, Greece and Anthony Panagoplos of Plati, Messinia, Greece. Viola was pre-deceased by her brother Peter Panagoplos. She is survived by her sister Effie Casteris and brother NicholasPanagoplos.

She attended public school in Peabody, graduating High School with honors in 1947. She was awarded the George Peabody Medal and scholarship, and matriculated to Salem Teachers College, where she graduated with honors in 1951. While in college she was active in various clubs and sports - playing basketball, hockey, softball, soccer and volleyball.

After college, she enjoyed a long career teaching business education - including typing, shorthand and accounting in the public schools of Somerset, Franklin, Medford and Winchester.

In her early years, she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir at the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. She remained active with her family at the Woburn, Lexington, Arlington, and Somerville Greek Orthodox parishes.

Viola was active with the Winchester Recreation Departmentand Winchester Garden Club. In retirement she traveledextensively, volunteering as a Group Leader for the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation service on Tuesday, May 26, at 4pm at the Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Road, Woburn. Funeral services will be conducted with visitation at 10 AM and formal service beginning at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 27, at the St.Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton Street, Arlington. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
