The Very Rev. Vasilios Flionis, of Yonkers, NY, suddenly, fell asleep in the Lord on April 20, 2019. Born in Cambridge, MA May 29, 1947. Devoted son of the late Demosthenes and Helen (Patsiades) Flionis. Loving brother of Andrea Karambelas of Burlington, MA. Loving uncle of Pamela Karambelas, of Burlington, Ma and Elena Karambelas of Woburn, MA. Loving great-uncle of Michael Christofero. Brother-in-Law of Saki Karambelas of Burlington, Mass. Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends here and in New York.

Fr. Vasilios began his life in the Church serving as an alter boy at the Taxiarche in Watertown. He studied Theology at the University Thessaloniki, in Thessaloniki Greece and was ordained in 1980.

He served as Parish Priest at St. George Greek Orthodox in Bangor, Maine; Assumption of the Virgin Mary Pawtucket, RI; St. Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria, NY; St. Nectarios in Roslindale, MA; Dormation of the Virgin Mary in Somerville, MA, Saints Anargyroi in Marlboro, MA, and Holy Ascension Greek Orthodox Church in Clearwater, FL.

For the past 6 years, he enjoyed assisting in services at the Sacred Patriarchal Monestary of St. Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria, NY.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 11AM at Taxiarchee Greek Orthodox church,25 Bigelow Ave, Watertown, MA. Divine Liturgy will begin at 8AM followed by a brief visitation from 9AM to 11AM, followed by funeral service at 11AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Patriarchal Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou, 36-07 23rd Ave., Astoria, NY 11105.  Burial will be held in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Mass.
