April 12, 1936 – February 10, 2025
Vasilios D. Zarkadas, 88, of Watertown, Massachusetts passed away on February 10, 2025 peacefully in comfort surrounded by his loved ones and will greatly be missed. Born in Kerasia, Greece. Son of the late Demetrios and Zoy (Alexopoulos) Zarkadas. He met and married the love of his life Irini "Rena" Valianatos in Athens and then came to America in 1968 . They made their home in Watertown, Massachusetts where they raised their two children, Joy and Demetrios Zarkadas. He was the proprietor of Jimmy's Family Restaurant in Waltham MA. When he was not working, he loved the simplicities of life such as spending time with his granddaughters and family, taking walks around the river, cooking with his wife and working on his garden.
He is survived by his beloved wife Irini "Rena" (Valianatos) Zarkadas. Devoted father of Joy Zarkadas of Walpole and her partner Alexander Campbell and Demetrios Zarkadas and his wife Christine of Belmont MA. Cherished Papou of Victoria, Olivia and Alexandra Zarkadas. Brother of Ioannis Zarkadas of Waltham, and the late Evangelos Zarkadas of Greece, the late Apostolos Zarkadas of Watertown, and the late Fotis Zarkadas of Greece. Brother in law of the late Kasiane Zarkadas of Greece, Elpida Zarkadas of Watertown, Froso Zarkadas of Greece and the late Stavroula Polychronopoulos and her husband Peter. Also survived by many nieces, nephews here and in Greece including Demetrios, A Zarkadas, Zoey Zarkadas, and Nick and Dennis Polychronopoulos and many relatives and friends here and in Greece.
Funeral Service on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11AM at the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, Massachusetts. Visitation prior to the Funeral Service from 9:30AM to 11AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Flowers and/or donations in his memory may be made to the above named church and are both welcome. Burial will be held in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown, Massachusetts.
