Vasiliki "Bess"
Manousos
d. June 9, 2026
Peabody
On June 9, Vasiliki "Bess" (Raizes) Manousos passed away peacefully at the age of 95.
Bess was born in Rochester, NH in 1930, where her parents had settled after immigrating from Greece. She grew up there with her parents and three siblings, spending her summers working at the family restaurant, the Nubble Light Dining Room, in York, Maine, which, to her delight, has become the extended family’s annual reunion spot each summer.
Bess attended Westbrook Junior College, graduating in 1952, and went on to work for New England Telephone in Boston, MA. She later married Alexander Manousos in 1966, and the two settled in Watertown, MA, where they raised their two children, George and Gregory. Bess went on to work for many years at Manzelli Oil in Watertown, MA, and spent the remainder of her career at Boston University. She was a devoted member of the Watertown Greek Orthodox Church and its Ladies Philoptochos Society, where she remained an active and cherished member for decades.
Bess was predeceased by her husband Alexander Manousos of Watertown, MA; her parents, Anthony and Panagiota Raizes of Rochester, NH; her brother Charles Raizes of Portsmouth, NH; her sister Katherine (Raizes) Stameris of Needham, MA; and her brother Daniel Raizes of Rochester, NH.
She is survived by her son George and his wife Bonnie of Vienna, VA; her son Greg and his wife Amy of Southborough, MA; her five grandchildren, Avery, Jordan, Ashley, William, and Zoe; and several nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 PM at Faggas Funeral Home in Watertown, MA. A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 10 AM at the Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, MA, with interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association at Alzheimer's Association or to the Watertown Greek Orthodox Church.
