BUONANNO, Vally L. (Miatto) 68, passed away at her beloved home in Watertown, MA July 22, 2015 from complications of multiple myeloma. Daughter of Luigi Miatto and Maria Scaramuzza, she was born in Zero Branco (Treviso, Italy) and grew up in Mestre (Venice, Italy). After graduating first in her class and with highest honors from the Liceo Franchetti in Mestre, she obtained her medical degree from the University of Padua, Italy. After obtaining her specialization certificate in Public Health, she worked for the city of Verona, Italy, prior to following her husband to the United States. She gave up her medical career to devote herself as wife and mother. She enjoyed her later work as a substitute teacher of multiple subjects, and as a translator. Her life-long passion for reading and learning led to her being a supporter of the Watertown Public Library, an avid participant in English and Italian book groups, and an active member of the Harvard Neighbors organization. She also derived great pleasure from designing and tending to her garden, solving crossword puzzles, and especially from the camaraderie of the Charles Riverbend Quilting Bee. She is survived by her husband, Ferdinando; son Lorenzo and his wife Susan Wager; stepdaughter Annamaria; sister Orietta Miatto; aunt Palmira Scaramuzza; and cousins Anna Guerra, Daniela Novello, Alessio Masetto, Luigina Miatto, Lia Scaramuzza, and Giuseppe Scaramuzza. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Faggas Funeral Home, 551 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, on Sunday, July 26th from 3:00-6:00pm. A funeral mass will take place on Monday, July 27th, at 9:00am, at Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown. A memorial celebration of her life will be programmed.
