Ronnie Caragianis, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 8, 2021. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her intelligence, humor, and independent spirit.
Ronnie was born on August 6, 1926, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the second youngest of 6 children. At a young age, Ronnie decided that she wanted a career; at age 18 she attended Cornell's School of Hotel Administration. After she graduated, she was asked by Mr. Statler to move to California to begin opening hotels, which launched her lifelong career in hospitality services. She remembered her time in California fondly, particularly experiencing her first earthquake.
She then became a freelance journalist for the Boston Herald /UPI in Athens while simultaneously trying her hand as an entrepreneur, starting one of the first rental car businesses. Missing her family brought her back to Boston, and for many years she managed Jimmy's Harborside Restaurant before her retirement.
She spent her final years at Brightview Senior Living in Arlington, MA. At age 87, she became the Ambassador of Brightview, meeting each new guest and conducting tours as well as working with the staff to improve residents' experiences. She loved working with people and said this new venture gave her purpose in her later years.
Ronnie never married or had children of her own, and she treated everyone she met like family. She read the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and the New York Times every day and was always ready to give her opinion on the state of the world. Ronnie felt that her greatest achievement was living her life the way she wanted. She was full of faith, wisdom, love, and patience that made her the best of confidants to many people, especially to her family, who she adored. She had a keen intellect and a fabulous sense of humor. She was equally happy discussing politics, the Prayer of the Day, or horoscopes. She loved telling jokes, playing and winning poker games, and wearing red lipstick.
May she Rest In Peace. May her Memory Be Eternal.
She is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and 16 godchildren.
