Costopoulos

Toula "Demetra" (Merianos) Costopoulos, 89, of West Roxbury, MA, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023. She was born in Krokees, Greece, to Demetrios and Eleni (Patrianakos) Merianos. Toula came to the United States in 1956 and stayed with family in Chicago, Il. She moved to Boston in 1960, and in 1961 she became a naturalized citizen of the United States. She traveled to Athens, Greece, where she married Alex Costopoulos on Feb. 25, 1962. They returned to the United States together later that year, settling in Dorchester, MA. They later moved to a two-family home in West Roxbury, MA, with her brother Nikolaos and his wife Athena, where they raised their families. Toula and Alex were among the founding families of St. Nectarios Greek Church and were devout Orthodox Christians. Toula was a talented seamstress and tailor, and she opened The Allston Dry Cleaners with her husband, her brother, and sister-in-law in 1980, where they worked together for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed returning to Greece for vacations and visiting family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking Greek delicacies. Beloved wife of the late Alex Costopoulos. Devoted mother of Nicholas Costopoulos and his husband, John J. Cowan, Theodore Costopoulos, and the late Demetrios Costopoulos. Loving sister of Nikolaos Merianos and his wife, Athena, John Merianos, and the late Panagiota Aloumanis, and the late Aspasia Eraklis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends here and in Greece. May her memory be eternal. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale, MA at 11AM. Visiting hours will be held from 10AM to 11AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the above named church or to Ethos, 555 Armory Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, MA.
