Orphanos
March 6, 1921 – September 19, 2022
Theone Orphanos of Jamaica Plain, MA, 101 years old, passed away on September 19 th 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Theone was born in Lowell, Massachusetts to George and Kalliroy Georgountzos. At the age of 11, her father moved the family to Greece in search of relief from the Great Depression. After World War II, Theone along with her siblings returned to Boston on the first ship back from Greece. Theone graduated from teacher's college in Greece and taught Greek and Sunday school under Father Koukouzis at the Annunciation Church on Parker and Ruggles Street in Roxbury from 1946 to 1960. She taught Greek school at several different locations throughout Boston including Roslindale and the South End where she was known and loved by many who until this day would call her to see how she was doing. After the birth of her children, Theone went to work for Shawmut bank which later was acquired by Bank of America where she worked for many years until her retirement in 1986. Theone loved her family and friends and would make it a point to call them and stay in touch. She loved her Greek culture and looked forward to the church festivals to see old friends, listen to Greek music and eat some good Greek food. Theone remembered everyone's birthday and nameday and would often surprise her nieces and nephews with a gift. She was always up for a card game and loved to watch game shows on TV. Jeopardy was her favorite. Her family knew not to call her between 7 and 8 pm because she was occupied. Theone was the beloved wife of the late William G. Orphanos, devoted mother of Dr. Andrea Orphanos and her husband Marshal Wolfman Boca Raton, FL and Michael Orphanos and his late wife Holly Orphanos of Jamaica Plain. She was loving Yiayia of Natalie and Melanie and Great Yiayia of Charlie. She was the loving sister of Christos Georgountzos and his wife Christine of Yarmouthport, MA, Vasilios Georgountzos and his wife Helen of Newton, MA, Dimitra (Becky) Cariofiles and her late husband Melvin of Stoughton, MA, and the late Aglaia Chrysikos and her late husband Sotirios. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, 514 Parker Street Roxbury Ma. At 11:00 AM. Visiting hours will be prior to the Service from 10 to 11:00 AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the above-named church. Internment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park Canton, MA.
