Obituary

Theodora A. (Lefas) Karavitis of Billerica, MA formerly of Somerville, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Theodora was born in Kaparelli, Greece, to the late Athanasios and Demetra (Karimbakas) Lefas. She immigrated to the United States in 1966 and later returned to Greece, where she met her beloved husband, Hristos Karavitis. In 1967, Theodora and Hristos returned to the United States and began their life together in Jamaica Plain. In 1971, they settled in Somerville, where they began their family and raised their three daughters, Diane, Christine, and Sotiria.

Family was always the center of Theodora’s life. She was a devoted mother who took great pride in her daughters and cherished the time she spent with her family. Her home was a place where family and friends were always welcomed, and she expressed her love through the many meals she lovingly prepared. Theodora was a fantastic cook and took great joy in preparing delicious food for the people she loved.

She also had a special love for gardening. She enjoyed tending to her garden and was especially proud of the delicious tomatoes she grew. She loved watching Greek television, keeping up with her Greek roots, and traveling to Greece whenever she could. Greece remained an important part of her heart and her life.

Theodora was a devoted parishioner of Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Somerville since 1971. Her faith was an important part of her life, and her church community remained a source of comfort, fellowship, and connection throughout the years.

Theodora worked many years for The Stride Rite Company. She was a hardworking, caring, and devoted woman whose love for her family and faith guided her throughout her life.

Theodora was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hristos. She is survived by her daughters, Diane, Christine, and Sotiria. As well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends in the United States, Canada, and Greece.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Georgia Alexopoulos and her late husband Ioannis, James Lefas and , and Anthoula Zarakovitis and her late husband Vasilios.

Theodora will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her warm home, delicious cooking, beautiful garden, Greek traditions, unwavering faith, and, most of all, the love she gave so generously to her family.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 29 Central St., Somerville, MA 02143. Please go directly to the church.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Faggas Funeral Home, 551 Mount Auburn St., Watertown, MA.

Burial will follow the Funeral Service at Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Road, Billerica, MA.
