Themistocles "Themis/Tim" Vulgaris's Obituary

Themistocles "Themis/Tim" Vulgaris of Hingham, MA, passed away on August 2, 2025, at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Eleni (Velissaris) and loving father to Katrina Vulgaris, Kristina & husband Jonathan LeVasseur, and Alexandra & husband Christian DeBisschop. The greatest pappou and pancake maker to Michael and Demetra.

The eldest son of Panagiotis and Aikaterini (Antoniou) Voulgaris, he leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, George and Irene Vulgaris, and his nephews Peter & Michael Vulgaris and their families. He also leaves behind his aunt, Zanetta Markakos, and cousins Patricia Lobb & Peter Markakos and their families. In Greece he leaves behind his cousins Niki Ouzounis & Popi Voulgaris and their families, as well as other extended family and friends.

Born in Plaka, the heart of Athens, Greece, Themis loved his home and his heritage. He left Greece at the age of 17 to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in Massachusetts, where his family later joined him. He then went on to open his own service station and auto repair shop, Tim's Sunoco. After 30 years, he retired from the repair business and focused on remodeling his deck into a taverna where he hosted family, friends, and artists from all over the world for dinner, drinks, fun, and dancing. His relationships with, and passion for, the Greek artists and music scene kept him tuned in every Saturday as he made it routine to watch Στην υγειά μας ρε παιδιά where he was later invited on as a special guest.

Throughout his years, Themis served in various capacities on the board of his church at Saint Catherine. He was also an active member and board member of Greek-American organizations including the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies and the Athenian-Pirean Association of New England.

To try and put his entire life's story into a handful of paragraphs is a tough feat. He lived a very full and passionate life alongside his family and friends. His pride in his πατρίδα spoke louder than words, and all he did was rooted in his culture and traditions. He invited everyone in with open arms and always had the grill ready to serve an army. When he wasn't preparing a feast, he was either working on the family cars, maintaining his beautiful yard and garden, or sleeping behind the net at his children's/grandchildren's sports events.

Services will take place at Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church (119 Common Street, Braintree, MA) on Thursday, August 7th. Visitation will take place from 9a-12p. Funeral service will start at 12p. Burial will follow the services at Pine Hill Cemetery (815 Willard Street, Quincy, MA).
