GOROS, Thalia (Ladas) "Thal" 90, of Watertown, passed peacefully on September 7, 2016, with her daughter by her side at her memory care community in Westford, MA, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Boston in 1926 to William and Zacharoula ("Lulu") Ladas, both emigrants from Greece, Thalia spent a happy childhood in Brighton. After graduation from Brighton High School in 1944, she attended Boston University for one year before deciding to pursue a business career first at I.J. Fox Company of Boston, and later at General Electric Co. in Boston and Brighton. Thalia married in 1953 and moved to Watertown in 1954 where she raised her family and lived for more than 60 years. As her children entered high school, she began working part-time "mother's hours" at UPS in Watertown, eventually transitioning to full-time as head of the Accounts Receivable department where her sharpness with numbers and details were legendary. Thalia retired from UPS in 1988 after nearly 20 years of commended service. Never one to sit still, she soon began volunteering as a kindergarten aide at the Cunniff School in Watertown where her children had attended, and was beloved as "Mrs. G" by the many students and families she worked with over the next 13 years. In her spare time she loved gardening, keeping up her home and Mercedes sports coupes, traveling with friends on cruises, and most especially spending much time as the devoted "YaYa" to her two granddaughters. Thalia was perhaps best known for her inner strength, loyalty and love for family and friends, fun-loving spirit, and quick wit. She was cherished by her daughter, caretaker and close friend Denise Goros Conley and her husband Charles J. Conley of Belmont, and son George T. Goros of Cape Coral, Florida, and treasured by her granddaughters Taylor Phelan Conley and Landis Goros. Thalia was the beloved sister of Panora Triantafell and her husband William of Norwood, and the late Steven Ladas. She was also a loving aunt and godmother to many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Tuesday, September 13, 4 - 8 pm, at Faggas Funeral Home in Watertown. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Thalia's funeral services on Wednesday, September 14, at 12:30 pm at the Watertown Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church followed by interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Thalia's memory may be made by mail or online to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund in Wellesley, MA: curealz.org/in-memory/thalia-goros
