Stefanos Bilis's Obituary

Stefanos Bilis passed away peacefully at the age of 90 with family at his bedside on April 27, 2023. Adored by his friends and family, Stefanos achieved a life of which many who come to America can only dream.

Born in Rizani, Greece in 1933, Stefanos sold fruit in the village where he met his wife Katerina, whom he married in 1957. In 1970, he followed his older brother George to America, first settling in Webster, MA, before moving with his beloved nephew Foti to his permanent residence in Arlington, MA. Before long, Stefanos had taught himself to read and write in English. With his unparalleled work ethic, shrewd business sense, and entrepreneurial spirit, he opened and operated two successful businesses, first in Cambridge, then in Boston, before retiring at the age of 62.

Stefanos was an avid lover of sports and politics. Above all, however, he was a man for whom the love and bond of family was paramount. He was a family patriarch in every sense of the word. Not only did he selflessly provide for his immediate and extended family, but also paved the way for future generations of his family to succeed in their own endeavors and businesses. He was the rock and the glue around which his family revolved. He gave everything he had to those he loved, never expecting or asking anything in return.

He happily spent his retirement helping his children with their business, gardening, watching sports and politics, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, on whom he doted. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Katerina, his two children Georgia and Arthur, their spouses Zaharias and Kimberly, his four grandchildren, John, Katerina, Bianca, and his namesake Stefan, his grandchildren's spouses, Monique and Peter, his three great grandchildren, Sophia, Zachary, and Violette, as well as numerous nieces and nephews both in Greece and America.

The funeral service will take place at 11AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at St. Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton St., Arlington, MA. Visitation prior to the Funeral Service will take place at the church from 9:30AM to 11AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. The burial will take place at the Gardens Cemetery, 67 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA.
