Shirley Helen Mars's Obituary

Shirley Helen (Petzoldt) Mars, 85, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2005,from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She was the wife of the late Platon John (Cokkinias) Mars who died in 1992, and the daughter of the late Dr. & Mrs. Rene L. Petzoldt of Brookline. She was born on May 18, 1919 and educated in Brookline, she graduated from Brookline High School and attended the Katharine Gibb's School. Her first job was for the Christian Science Monitor and later in the main office of the Zayre Corporation in Framingham and finally for Loyal Protective Life Insurance Company in Kenmore Square. In 1973 she and her husband returned to Yarmouthport. She moved to South Shore in 2002 to be near her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her two children, a son, the Rev. Peter John Mars and his wife,Margery,of North Monmouth,ME, and a daughter,Linda Mars Emerson and her husband James,of Mashpee and Stoughton, MA; and her sister,Esmee Goodwin of Florida; and six grandchildren: David Mars of Nevada,Martha Kluzak of Maine,Sandra Lindsey,Laura Niabi-Westcott,John Peter Lind and Paul Platon Andrews all of MA,and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlinn Kluzak of Maine and Alex,Connor and Logan Westcott of MA.

Shirley will be remembered for her love of the arts. She played piano,studied ballet and toe tap for 16 years and performed in Boston. She loved horseback riding and being at the beach.
