Robert Samuel Young, 83, of South Weymouth passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Norwood HealthCare. Born in Cambridge, MA to Samuel and Janet (Valentine) Young. Bob was a career warehouse shipper and receiver in greater Boston. He was a man of many loves and shared 25 years with his life companion, Judith Griffin, who predeceased him. In his spare time he loved the study and practice of nutrition, playing darts, flower gardening, collecting coins, stamps and sports cards. His passion, however, was being on the stage. His great interest in music began with his early involvement as a soldier of The Salvation Army in Somerville, where he learned to play a brass instrument and had an opportunity to speak and sing in public. He loved and excelled in local theater and singing in public. Until he was no longer able to recall the words, he could be found breaking into song wherever people gathered. During the last two years of life he found ready audiences in the activity room of the All American Assisted Living facility and even in hospital emergency rooms where he would be easily distracted by an invitation to sing to the nurses. He never missed an opportunity to croon to a beautiful woman, especially redheads! He was an excellent communicator, had a quick and ready wit and was an intriguing story teller. He was a US Navy veteran and trained as a radio operator. Stories of his submarine adventures were always a delight to his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his former wife, Rhoda M Young; their five adult children, Rodney M Young (Debra), Pamela J Ocheltree, Joyce A Hartshorn (Gregory), Steven M Young and Robert S Young; his two sisters, Ruthann Ryan (Lawrence) and Florence Forster (Edward), many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Bob is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Janet Young, his brothers John and Bruce Young and his niece Christina Ryan. A memorial service will be held at The Salvation Army's Wonderland Conference Center, 10 Capen Hill Road, Sharon MA, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A private military burial will be arranged by Faggas Funeral Home at the Massachusetts National
