Robert Thomas
Curtin
July 10, 1932 – January 8, 2023
Robert T. Curtin, 90 years young, formerly of Naples FL and Belmont MA passed away peacefully on January 8th in Worcester MA at the Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center surrounded by family and the wonderful staff who became like family to "Bob" caring for both him and his predeceased wife of 69 years Dorothy "Dottie" (O'Brien). Born in Boston to Frank and Mary Curtin, Bob was a sweet and industrious boy who would drive his Dad's flower truck route while his Dad slept off the last evenings "touch" then hustle to Oakley County Club to caddy or to school, though he much preferred being on the golf course!
Bob was passionate about golf from those early days. He had the game and sponsorship to go pro after winning regional and national armed forces tournaments while serving in the United States Airforce, but chose his new wife, Dottie and young family over the fame and riches of a pro tour, albeit before it offered fame and riches!
He dedicated his life to his wife and children. Bob pursued his passion of accounting attending ten years of night school securing his degree at Northeastern University while simultaneously working full time as his family grew to six children. Bob was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father with a deep faith; always singing his favorite crooners at any social occasion. Bob's innate knowledge of friendship, his ability to offer guidance to others and lead with his strong work ethic was the foundation his family was built around. He shared these attributes with his community as well: A former president of the Belmont Lions Club; Bob was a Belmont Little League Coach of "The Indians" for 20 years; a Belmont School Committee Member for decades and a consummate Boston sports team fan his entire life.
Bob and his sons made many fond memories attending "The Masters" Golf Tournament in past years leading up to his retirement in Naples as a resident member at Foxfire Country Club making new friends, experimenting with different putters and HighTech clubs while conserving golf balls as he had as a young caddy despite an unlimited new supply provided by his golf professional son, Bill. Bob leaves behind, until they can join him for more singing and fun, his five surviving children: Dotti Kelly-Grosse and John Grosse of West Boylston, MA, Robert and Dianne of Naples, FL, Valerie and Steve McFadden of Naples, FL, Michael Curtin, of Nashua, NH, William and Eva of Little Compton, RI and predeceased by youngest son, James Curtin formerly of Los Angeles, CA. Beloved father- in-law of the late Dan Kelly. Father-in-law of Deb Gillen and Richard Davidson. Bob's nine adoring grandchildren: Megan and Mark, Rob and Tim, Kaliegh, Ashley and Shane, Julianna and Will. Bob's youngest admirers were his three great grandchildren: Quinn, Shea and Soren. Along with many nieces and nephews, his youngest brother Richard "Richie" Curtin and his wife Connie, and the late Arlene Jepsen Spooner and Frank Curtin. Also, Bob's childhood caddy, lifelong golf buddy and best friend Richard "Dick" Spillane and his wife Pat. Bob's life would not be complete without the saintly, caring Irish camaraderie of his dear friend, Billy, from Lutheran Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, "We work together! You have to look good by 10:00."
Services for Bob and Dottie will be held privately at a later date and the family only requests you tip your caddies well or a small donation in Bob's name, be made to the charity of one's choice.
