Rachel Karis, 19, of La Selva Beach, Calif., died as a result of an accident in Boston on September 11, 2007. Rachel was the daughter of Tony Karis and Gail DeLano Karis, sister of Adam and Emily. Currently attending Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Mass; and was a previous student at University of San Diego. Survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, a great-grandmother and many friends. Rachel was born in San Jose, California, was raised in La Selva Beach and graduated from Aptos High School in 2006. Rachel was blessed with a wonderful intellect, curiosity, dry sense of humor, loved her kitty Larry and dog Tassy and was a \x91master barista\x92 at Bird Rock Coffee Company in La Jolla and Coffee Cat in Scotts Valley, California. Memorial services are being held Sunday, September 23, 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, at Santa Cruz Bible Church at 2:00 pm and at Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Mass., on Wednesday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rachel Karis Memorial Trust, US Bank, 783 Rio Del Mar Blvd, Aptos, CA (831)688-7111 to benefit the Kimberly Hardin Art Foundation and future projects at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering.
