On April 2, we lost a truly unique and loveable man. Peter Kyvelos fought a tough battle with cancer and the disease was simply bigger than our gentle giant. Peter was an instrument builder, talented artist and the human encyclopedia . Recognized world-wide for his Ouds, Peter was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts as a master craftsman and has his very own spot in the Smithsonian. Unique Strings, his workshop of over 45 years, hosted musicians far and wide, where great music was played, stories told and fine cigars smoked. Peter was an avid fly-fisherman; preferring to spend his free time chasing trout by stream and striped bass by ocean. He was a collector of art, books, antique toys and small furry pets. Peter was the original hipster; rocking his trademark handlebar moustache long before hipsters thought they were cool. Peter is survived by a plethora of family and friends, too many of which to name. He is survived by his loving wife Ginny, his favorite daughter Stephanie and her husband John, his late son Matthew, his equally as talented son Nick and his wife Carli, his adorable grandson Theodore and future granddaughter-to-be. Peter always hated the word Goodbye and preferred See You Later, so See You Later, Pete! We are certain you are enjoying a Romeo and Juliet with Matt, bamboo rod by your side, on a trout stream in the sky! Peter S. Kyvelos, of Bedford, Mass., passed away on April 2, 2017.
