Peter S. Georgopoulos of Watertown, MA passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on January 4, 2022 after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his daughter , Patryce and his sister, Toula .

Peter was born in Kadvounadi, Megalopoly Greece on July 26, 1933.  He immigrated to the United States in 1938 with his mother, Georgia, when he was five years old. He was raised in a traditional Greek family with values.  He served in the Koran War in 1951 through 1953 and earned several distinguished medals of honor during the war as a Sergeant.

He married the very beautiful Mersina "Tootsie" in 1955 and they had 2 children Stephen Georges and Patryce Georgopoulos. Peter was a dedicated devoted loving father to his 2 children and 3 grandchildren, Alex Dominguez, Nicholas Georges and Victoria Georges.

Peter was a painter by trade, one of the best around. He was still climbing ladders at age 80.  Peter's life was also spent in the restaurant business.  His family owned the New Yorker Diner in Watertown for over 55 years. Peter became the proprietor of the Diner in 1980, 4 generations worked at the diner.

Peter will be remembered for his family devotion, kindness, generosity thoughtful caring ways, hard work and witty sense of humor. He was known to many as "Pete the Greek". He was also known as the "acting" mayor of Watertown as everywhere he went everyone knew him. He will most be remembered as a beloved, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Some of Peter's hobbies throughout the years were playing gin rummy with his family and friends, traveling to Aruba. He owned racehorses and loved going to Suffolk Downs with his daughter. In the winter months he would head south to spend winters with his son Stephen and his grandchildren.

Peter is survived by his son, Stephen Georges and his daughter, Patryce Georgopoulos. His grandchildren, Alex Dominguez, Nicholas Georges and Victoria Georges . Sisters, Toula Keuchkarian and  Stacia Xerras and her husband Archiles Xerra. Also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services on Thursday, January 13th at 11 AM in the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church 25, Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA. A visitation will be held in the church prior to the funeral services from 9 am – 11 am. Burial to follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA, Please meet directly at the cemetery at 2 pm for the burial .

In lieu of flowers donations in Peters memory may be made to the above-named church or to the Veterans.
