Peter John Baccus of Lexington, Mass., formerly of Cambridge and Belmont, Mass., passed away peacefully on April 14, 2020 at age 82. Peter was preceded in death by his father George Baccus, his mother Pauline Baccus, and his son George Peter Baccus. He is survived by his daughter Lauren Baccus Grandmaison, her husband Tom Grandmaison, and his grandson Andrew Grandmaison, as well as by his daughter-in-law Marybeth Callahan Baccus, and granddaughters Carissa Baccus and Sigourney Baccus. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and other family members. Peter was a kind, gentle and generous man who loved to help others. From the 1970's to the present, he remained involved with assisting, sponsoring and providing guardianship for graduates of the Fernald Developmental Center, which serves individuals with developmental disabilities. He also enjoyed playing many sports. He attended Browne and Nichols School and Cambridge Latin School, playing on their varsity football and baseball teams. He continued his involvement in sports throughout his life. As a member of the Coast Guard, he was chosen to represent his sector on the Coast Guard baseball team and won the "best athlete" award; he played on his son's softball team into his '60's; tennis, bowling and golf were also favorite past-times of his throughout his life. After graduating from Burdett College, Peter joined his father in the wine and liquor business, where he honed his interest and expertise in wines, and continued in this field until his retirement. His favorite thing of all was to spend time with his family. He enjoyed being with his daughter, Lauren, and son, George, and their families, especially at their home in Seabrook Beach, NH, riding the waves, watching movies and having fun together. As a result of the ongoing health crisis in the world and with genuine concern for the people whom they love, funeral and burial will be private.
