Obituary

Panagiota (Maliotakis) Koutalakis, a treasured resident of Norwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 10, 2026, enveloped in the loving embrace of her family. Born in the tranquil village of Melesses, Heraklion, Crete, she was the cherished daughter of the late Manolis and Argyro (Klompou) Maliotakis.

In Greece, Panagiota met her beloved husband, the late Michael Koutalakis, with whom she shared a profound journey. Together, they ventured to a new life in the United States in 1970, initially residing in Arlington, Massachusetts, before finding their enduring home in Norwood.

A devoted wife and mother, Panagiota dedicated her life to her family's happiness and prosperity, offering them boundless opportunities and unwavering support. Her passion for knitting was expressed through the creation of delightful dolls, generously gifted to Children's Hospital and her church. Her culinary prowess was legendary, bringing joy to family and friends through her exceptional dishes. As an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, she particularly relished baking Easter bread with fellow members, enriching both her community and traditions.

Firmly rooted in her Orthodox faith, Panagiota savored every precious moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The summers spent in Greece with her daughter Irene, alongside visits to her beloved sister and family, filled her heart with immeasurable joy.

Panagiota's legacy is one of love and devotion. She leaves behind her children: Charles Koutalakis, James Koutalakis and his wife Rosa, and Irene Vulgaris and her husband George. She was the adored Yiayia to Steven Koutalakis, Susan Koutalakis and her husband Jason Rizzo, Peter Vulgaris and his wife Aimee, and Michael Vulgaris and his wife Melinda, as well as the treasured Great Yiayia to Grace Rizzo, George, Zoe, Lyra, and Clio Vulgaris. Her dear sisters, Nafsika Zacharakis and Evangelia Sapounakis. She was the niece of Costa and Mary Maliotis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends across the Atlantic, hold her memory dear.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11 AM at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Braintree, Massachusetts, with visitation from 9:30 AM to 11 AM. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the church.

Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Norwood, Massachusetts.

May her memory be eternal.
