Nickie Abate passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026 at the age of 84, with her family by her side. Nickie was predeceased by her sister Gloria, brother-in-law Nick, and nephew Louis. She leaves behind her adoring husband John, son John and wife Pam, son Ken, grandchildren Zachary, Dylan, Lucia, Niko, Matteo, and her daughter-in-law Nicole Abate.  She also leaves behind her beloved sister Mary Christakis, niece Ellaine Mirabella, nephew Peter Christakis and his wife Christy, and many great nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Born in Kalavrita, Greece on October 19, 1941, Nickie was the daughter of Constantine and Helen Dimitros. She attended Brookline High School and a secretarial school in Boston. Nickie helped her husband John build a successful consulting business.

Nickie first met John in 1957 at a graduation party. They soon fell in love and were married in 1966. Nickie was a long standing member of the Taxiarchae Church and the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Daughters of Penelope and enjoyed many years of being a member of the AHEPA family with her husband.  John and Nickie enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. Throughout her life, Nickie enjoyed the closeness she had with her family and being a nurturer at home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 11 AM at Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
