Nicholas Darris, of Arlington, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Aphrodite (Sokaris) Darris for 56 years. Devoted and loving father to three girls and grandfather (papou) to eight: Christina (Tina) Farrell, her husband Daniel and their children Nicholas and Leah of Medford, Irene Kalogeris, her husband John and their children Alexandra, Sophia and Kathryn of Reading, and Katherine Darris, her wife Lisa O'Connor and their children Jillian, Jayden and Daniel of Billerica. Nicholas was born in Bucharest Romania, moved to Greece in his teens, became a merchant marine after high school and at the age of 29 made his way to the United States. He was the son of the late Christos and Sevasty Darris of Greece, brother of the late Gabriella (Darris) Velonias and late husband George and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a devoted member of the St. Athanasius The Great Greek Orthodox Church in Arlington and served as parish council president two terms. Recipient of the Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award, past Grand Master of the Massachusetts Lodge of Masons Boston, a member of the Ahepa and the Hellenic Square and Compass club. He was a masterful dental technician who loved what he could do for others in their time of need. He has helped many for over 50 years, right up until his last day. He was a wonderful man who touched many lives. He will be missed by all of us who knew him. Visiting hours are Tuesday, July19, from 4-8 PM at St. Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton Street, Arlington, MA 02476. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 10 AM at St. Athanasius church, followed by burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations, in his memory, may be made to St. Athanasius The Great Greek Orthodox Church, Iconography Fund.
