Mary Zevitas's Obituary

Mary Zevitas, 96, a longtime resident of Watertown, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026.

Born in Cambridge in 1929 to John and Anastasia (Vlahakis) Kefalas, Mary was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School. She dedicated many years of her professional life to the federal government, serving as a Purchasing Agent for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Waltham.

A woman of diverse interests and a sharp mind, Mary was an avid reader of biographies and a keen observer of politics. Her curiosity about history often drew her to World War II documentaries and classic cinema. When she wasn't traveling or dancing, Mary could be found engaging in a spirited game of cards or competing at her own homemade board game—which, her family notes, she played with an endearing (and successful) determination to win.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Demos Zevitas, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage.

She is survived by her four sons: Peter, Zachary, Gregory, and Christopher Zevitas and his wife, Rosina Mele. She was the proud grandmother of Demos and Alessandra Zevitas, and a devoted "pet mom" to her cherished cats, Euripides and Ziggy.

She also leaves behind her nephews, Stephen, Donald, and John Weagle; her niece, Cynthia (Weagle) Harrington; and a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private burial services were held on February 24, 2026, at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Watertown, Massachusetts.
