Mary P.
Poravas
May 19, 1936 – June 24, 2023
Mary Poravas (Alexopoulos), beloved Mother, Grandmother and
renowned hostess, passed away on Saturday, June 24th 2023 at 87 years
old. She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, unwavering
strength, resilience, & love she had for her Grandchildren & Great
Grandchildren.
Mary was born on May 19th, 1936 in Boston, MA. to Trefon Alexopoulos
and Panagiota Alexopoulos both Greek immigrants, and was the second
youngest of seven siblings. She learned the values of hard work,
perseverance and the importance of family. These values would shape
Mary's life in many ways, and guide her through triumphs and challenges
with unwavering determination.
One of Mary's defining moments came when she showed her dedication
to her work as a waitress even during her successful battle with cancer.
Her determination paid off as she earned a coveted spot at a gourmet
restaurant where Mary became one the the most successful servers.
Mary's greatest joy in life came from her role as a Grandmother & Great
Grandmother. She cherished her five grandchildren & three great
grandchildren with all her heart and took great delight in spending time
with them. She showered them with love and gifts. Mary was
particularly thrilled to welcome her first Great Granddaughter Eleanor,
often taking delight in every step of her young development, and
commenting on how smart & beautiful she was.
As an exceptional hostess and amazing cook, Mary's holiday gatherings
were legendary. Family & friends eagerly anticipated these magnificent
celebrations, where her home cooked meals & desserts left everyone in
awe. Her sumptuous feasts were not only delicious but also times when
family and friends got together to share laughter and joy, making these
Gatherings truly memorable.
In life Mary had many interests. She had a passion for gardening, and
was extremely proud of her backyard where she would spend hours
tending to her rose bushes and beautiful flower beds. Mary also loved
fashion and made sure that she, her children, and grandchildren were
Impeccably dressed for every special occasion.
Without question the place that gave her & her family their most joy was
her home in Winchester, where she lived for 50 years. Here it was where
she created a beautiful oasis that gave her, her family and friends much
joy and comfort.
As we gather to remember Mary's life, let's all celebrate and share the
best memories we have.
