Mary
Limberakis
March 31, 1930 – November 28, 2024
Mary (Gogolos) Limberakis, born March 31, 1930, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to John S. Gogolos and Jenny (Zenovia Diamondes) Gogolos and was raised in Somerville. She was married to John Limberakis of Falmouth, MA until his sudden passing in 1986.
Mary was a natural host, known for her ability to turn any gathering into a celebration. Whether it was a planned event or a spontaneous get-together, she never turned anyone away, living by her motto, "the more, the merrier." She, particularly, enjoyed treating people to her favorite Greek dishes. She had a life-long love of singing, dancing, and music. Her warmth and generosity left an impression on everyone she met. There was a seat for everyone at her table.
Mary, with her adventurous and hard-working spirit, adeptly joined her husband in owning and running their own business for 22 years in Holbrook. Upon John's sudden death two weeks after their retirement, she pushed through her grief and rallied to recreate her life, spending time with friends and family and traveling, including spending months at a time, over several years, on the island of Santorini, Greece, helping run her friend's 5-star resort.
A member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Somerville, she served for almost two decades as the president of the church's senior group, The Golden Club, where she dedicated her time to organizing interesting trips and parties. She was, also, a member of the church choir.
Until the end, Mary was still hoping to resume her bocci, bowling and water aerobics groups, where her friendships continued until her death. She danced at a family party (with a little help) a month before her passing. Staying active physically and socially was a recipe to her resiliency and long, happy life.
Mary is survived by her son George J. Limberakis and his husband Randy Bradshaw of Salt Lake City; Her daughter Jennifer Zenovia Limberakis, who made it possible for Mary to live out her life in her home; and her granddaughter, Katie Limberakis of Austin, Texas, who was a constant source of pride and joy for her Yia-Yia. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, and many lifelong dear friends of all ages.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1986, her beloved son, Michael Limberakis, in 2013 and brother, Steve J. Gogolos and his wife Helen of Medford; brother, Anthony (Tony) Gogolos and his wife, Louise, of Marlboro, and her sister Hope August and her husband, Richard August, of Somerville.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be eternal.
