Mary "Metaxia" (Contos) Kanellias, 98, of Newton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024.

Mary was a grandmother, mother, wife, sister, godmother and good friend to so many people. She had the rare gift of staying in touch with everyone she knew in some way, whether it was a telephone call or a heartfelt card to let them know she was thinking of them.

As a graduate of the New England School of Art, she became a long-time dressmaker and accomplished seamstress at Priscilla's Bride Shop and Fredley's on Newbury Street to name a few.

Mary later became a talented painter and a long-time member of the Newton Art Association and loved nothing more than sharing her artwork with her family, friends, and community.

Mary was the Beloved wife of the late Demetrios M. Kanellias. Devoted mother of Michael D. Kanellias and his wife Maria, and Peter Kanellias and his wife Dao.  Loving Yiayia of Marianne Kanellias and her fiance Stephen Harnais, Dimitri Alexander Kanellias, Ellen Kanellias and Demetri Michael Kanellias.  Loving sister of Penelope Dhionis and her husband George. Also survived by many relatives and friends.  Funeral Service on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA at 11AM.  Visitation prior to the Service from 10AM to 11AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Please omit flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the above named church. Burial in Newton Cemetery, Newton, Massachusetts.
