Christakis
June 12, 1938 — June 18, 2026
Mary (Dimitropoulou) Christakis of Watertown, Massachusetts passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 18, 2026 at the age of 88.
Mary was the daughter of Constantine and Eleni Dimitropoulos - born in Kalavrita Greece on June 12, 1938.
Mary built a life rooted in compassion and hard work. She was known for her generous spirit, her unwavering devotion to those she loved, and the quiet strength that shaped every chapter of her life. Mary was married to her loving husband Nick in 1961, and was a devoted mother to her son Peter - a role which brought her the greatest joy.
Beyond her family life, Mary was deeply connected to her Greek heritage, and a faithful member of the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown for more than 50 years.
Together with her husband Nick she worked hard assisting the parish council members in many facets. Mary took great pride in her role within the church community and brought warmth and sincerity wherever she went. Over the years Mary opened her home to families in need hosting them in her own home until they were able to get on their feet. Mary’s home was a gathering place for family and friends. She was a woman who always made others feel welcome and truly enjoyed offering up a meal.
She was also a member of the Philoptochos Society where she volunteered baking, cooking, and crafting for events to support the annual festival, or the easter bake sale to name a few. Among many things Mary will be remembered for her boundless compassion to all those around her, her incredible cooking skills, and her unwaivering commitment to her church and her family.
Mary is survived by her son Peter and his wife Christy, her grandchildren Eleni and Sophia, her brother in law George Christakis, sister in law Mary Christakis, brother in law John Abate, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces/nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Nick, sister Gloria Salemis, sister Nikkie Abate, nephew Louis Salemis, sister in law Georgia Therios, brother in law Peter Therios and parents Constantine and Helen Dimitropoulos.
