Magdalena
Asimacos
March 23, 1940 – September 12, 2023
Magdalena Asimacos, 83, of Belmont, Mass. passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Milina, Greece to the late Socrates and Anna (Dakas) Papahatzis. Magdalena came to the United States at the age of 19 and lived on Huntington Avenue in Boston, Mass. with her father and sister Joanna. She met the love of her life Costa Peter Asimacos and they married in 1969. They started their family in Winchester, Mass. and later settled in Belmont, Mass. with their two daughters, Christina and Panayiota.
Magdalena loved children, the simple joys of everyday life and learning from and talking with others on just about any topic you could imagine. It was not uncommon for her to begin a conversation with a total stranger, where both she and her new friend benefitted from the exchange of ideas and thoughts. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, both in the United States and in Greece. Each trip involved visiting various churches and monasteries. As a devout Orthodox Christian, she devoted her life after the death of her husband to her two daughters, Christina and Panayiota. Her grandson Alexander Milios was her pride and joy. She called him "the prince of the family" and "my baby."
Beloved wife of the late Costa Peter Asimacos. Devoted mother of Christina Asimacos and Panayota "Patricia" Asimacos. Cherished yiayia of Alexander Milios. Loving sister of Joanna Thomopoulos and her husband George, Violetta Mamouxas, and Marianthi Athanasiades. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, Mass. at 11AM. Visitation prior to the Service from 10AM to 11AM at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the above named church.
