Lorraine C (Gignac) Lavoie, 90, of Hopedale, MA passed away on November 27,2023 at the Blaire House of Milford, MA. Born in Woonsocket on January 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Charlotte (Lloyd) Gignac. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Lavoie of Woonsocket, RI and Inverness, FL.
Lorraine grew up in Woonsocket, RI. She was one of seven children. She was a homemaker and devoted her time to raising her 2 boys and care-taking her many nieces and nephews. She worked in several local mills to help provide for her family during her time in Woonsocket.
Lorraine was generous with those she loved. She held her family at the very center of her life and was dedicated to making her love felt through her acts of care. She enjoyed spending time and making memories with family and friends in both Rhode Island and Florida.
She loved a good card game,and had many card parties at her home during the holidays, the Gignac sisters were fierce card players. Lorraine enjoyed bowling in the local leagues in RI and FL and church bingo with friends in Florida. She traveled with her husband and family in the 70s, and later with her sister Connie. These were the activities she enjoyed and liked to reminisce about when speaking of the past.
Her house was the holiday gathering space for the family in RI. Her turkey dinners and meat stuffing were legendary in the family. Cooking was her passion, she especially liked to cook French Canadian meals for her family and extended family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and extended family
Lorraine is survived by her beloved son, Allen Lavoie and his wife Janice (Cook) Lavoie of Hopedale MA, her daughter-in-law Lucie Lavoie of Kissimmee, FL, and her sister-in-law Mary Jane Gignac of North Carolina. Lorraine had three beloved grandchildren, Erika Lavoie Knight and her husband Damian of North Sutton, NH, Alexander Lavoie and his wife Katherine (Daly) of Northbridge, MA, and Timothy Lavoie of Kissimmee, FL. She had 6 great-grandchildren, Destiny, Anthony, Anellis, Hazel, Atlas, Lennox and one great-great-granddaughter Amora, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Kenneth Lavoie, and her siblings, Connie Bourk, Claire Parenteau, Oscar "Sonny" Gignac, Carol Gignac, Patricia Washington, Nancy Gignac Enright, and her granddaughter Kelli Lavoie of Kissimmee, Florida.
Ever the personality, Lorraine will be greatly missed. Her burial is private per Lorraine's and her family wishes.
