Laurel
Yaneff
May 9, 1960 – July 22, 2025
Laurel Yaneff, age 65, of Billerica, formerly of Waltham, Massachusetts, passed away on July 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 9, 1960, in Brighton, MA, Laurel lived most of her life in Waltham before moving to Billerica. She was a 1978 graduate of Waltham
High School and went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification from the Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing of
Massachusetts General Hospital in 1980.
Laurel was known for her quick wit, warm heart, and her gift for making others laugh. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother,
and a cherished sister and friend. She had a deep love for animals and adopted many dogs throughout her life, always welcoming them into her home with care and compassion.
She enjoyed trips to Maine, New Hampshire, and Florida, and treasured visits to see her grandchildren in Pennsylvania.
Though she began her career in nursing, her most fulfilling role came later as a school bus driver for many years in Waltham as well as other surrounding cities. This job allowed her to be close to home and spend more time with her family, which meant the world to her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 40 years, Nicholas; her daughters, Nicole (Matthew) Walker and Victoria Yaneff; her
treasured grandchildren, Patrick Walker and Benjamin Walker; her sister, Susan (Alan) Porfert; as well as her nephew, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lindsay Yaneff; her father, Murray Somerville; and her mother, Ruth Somerville.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25th at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton, MA 02459. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurel's memory may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts and New Hampshire Chapter—a cause close to the family's heart.
