Kalisty “Katy” (Pinakas) Demopoulos of Dracut passed away on May 26 at High Pointe House hospice after a short illness. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of over 60 years, James, who died in 2019. Katy was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Kotsonis) Pinakas.
Born in Somerville in 1934, Katy was a 1952 graduate of Somerville High School. She lived most of her life in Arlington, where she raised her family after moving there in 1965.
She is survived by her son Gary and his wife Georgiann of Dracut, daughter Cynthia of Medford, and son Jay of Dracut, and a sister, Virginia Katz and her husband Barry of Stow, MA. She was the grandmother of Alexis of Dracut, and Julia of East Boston. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Katy was also the sister of the late Triantafillos “Phil” Pinakas and Evelyn Constantine.
Katy held many jobs in addition to being an impeccable homemaker, raising her three children. Over the course of her working years, she served in a variety of roles, including as secretary of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England in Brookline, running her own catering business, Homestyle Caterers, as an office administrator for Belmont Orthodontics, and as an administrative assistant for Eye Think, Inc. in Waltham. When her children were younger, Katy also volunteered with the cafeteria staff at Brackett Elementary School in Arlington.
An accomplished cook, Katy loved preparing meals for family and friends. She cherished her annual Cape Cod vacations with her family.
Visiting hours will be held from 9-11 am on Monday, June 1 at St. Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton St., in Arlington, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katy’s memory to the High Pointe House hospice, 360 North Ave,Haverhill, MA.
