John Demetrios
Mihopoulos
May 24, 1947 – March 22, 2021
John Demetrios Mihopoulos, age 73, of Natick, MA, passed away in his home on March 22, 2021.
He was born on May 24, 1947, in Kalamata, Greece, the oldest of four siblings. He grew up in Kyparissia, Greece, by the Ionian Sea, and moved to Athens as a young child after the death of his father, Demetrios. In Athens, he helped raise his siblings after the untimely death of this mother, Pascalia. When he was 21years old, his neighbor introduced him through correspondenceto her niece in the United States, Agatha (Gianiotis). In 1969, after spending a short time together in Greece, John and Agatha were married and settled in Natick, MA to raise their family.Throughout his working career, John was primarily a baker, mainly at Diamond Bakery in Newton, MA.
John is survived by his wife, Agatha and his five children – Demetrios (and wife Maria), Nektarios, Raphael, Christina (and husband Scott), and Theana. "Papou" John also leaves seven grandchildren - Agatha and John D. Mihopoulos (his namesake); Nicholas and Stephen Mihopoulos; and Alexandra, Aidan, and Pascalia Ward. He is also survived by a brother, Dionysius and his wife of Crete, Greece; his sister, Dena of Athens, Greece;and many nieces and nephews in the United States, Greece, and Canada. He was predeceased by his brother Panagioti, of Athens, Greece.
John's life was guided by the two things he valued most – loving and supporting his wife and children, and his steadfast faith in the Orthodox Christian Church. He was one of the founding members of St. Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral in Roslindale, MA. He served at the church as deacon for over 40years. A man of few words, he was loved and respected by all. He will be greatly missed.
Eternal be his memory.
