John "Ioannis"
Demopoulos
June 20, 1931 – December 10, 2024
In Loving Memory of John (Ioannis) Demopoulos
June 20, 1931 – December 10, 2024
John (Ioannis) Demopoulos, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed member of the Greek American community, passed away on December 10, 2024, in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old.
Born in Choremi (Χορέμι), Megalopolis, Greece, John was the treasured first son of Dimitris Demopoulos (Δημόπoυλος) and Eleni Mavroydi (Μαυροειδή). After losing his mother at a young age, he was lovingly raised by his father and stepmother, Demetra Daskalopoulou (Δασκαλοπούλου).
John graduated from the Hellenic Air Force Academy, proudly serving his homeland. His exceptional skills earned him an invitation from the United States Air Force, where he contributed to special missions. After settling in Boston, he built a life rooted in family, faith, and community. He took up studies at Northeastern University and subsequently pursued a successful career in Electrical Engineering. Always dedicated to family, John also brought his parents and two brothers from Greece to help them establish roots in America.
A devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church, John was deeply involved in church life and actively supported his community. His warmth, kindness, and steadfast faith left an enduring impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
John's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted children: Eleni Demopoulos, James Demopoulos with his wife Kendra, Kristen Demopoulos, and Matthew Demopoulos with fiancée Alyx. He was a doting grandfather to Christopher, Delilah, Maria, Nikoletta, Catharine, Alexandra, John, and Elizabeth-Marie, with whom he cherished spending quality time.
His children and grandchildren admired his bilingual abilities, often teasing him lovingly about his slight accent. Despite this, they recognized and deeply respected his exceptional command of English. They also remember his diligence in staying well-informed, frequently finding him reading newspapers, books, and magazines to expand his knowledge and understanding of the world. He always planted a vegetable and flower garden, often trying to teach us about nature and plant life that way.
John is survived by his brothers: Theodoros Demopoulos and his wife Angeliki of Athens, Greece; Panagiotis Demopoulos of Stoneham, Massachusetts; and Athanasios Demopoulos and his wife Voula of Arlington, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his brother Konstantinos Demopoulos, who lived in Rio, Brazil. John's legacy extends to numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends across the United States, Greece, and the United Kingdom.
John's traditional values, intelligence, kindness, devotion to family, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His legacy lives on in the love he shared and the values he instilled in future generations.
Family and friends are invited to honor John's life on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 514 Parker Street, Boston, MA. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM. The burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 920 Adams Street, Dorchester, MA.
