Obituary

John Peter Fountas was born in Boston on August 15, 1962, to his loving parents, Peter Charles Fountas and Catherine Fountas. Surrounded by his devoted family, John passed away on June 28, 2015. He is survived by his adoring daughter, Natalie Fountas-Davis, a biomedical engineer from Cleveland, Ohio; his beloved mother, Catherine Fountas of Westwood, Massachusetts; his loving brothers, Charles Peter Fountas and Paul Peter Fountas of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; his sisters, Irene Fountas of Belmont, Massachusetts, Nancy Fountas of Braintree, Massachusetts, and Linda Fountas of Norwood, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his aunts, Betty Philopoulos of Fernandino Beach, Florida, and Catherine Halachis, as well as many loving cousins and friends, including Ginger Davis of Atlanta, Georgia. While John lived his school years in Westwood, Massachusetts, he lived and worked in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after graduating from The Ohio State University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He co-founded Microcomputer Inc. with his brother, Paul, where he built a reputation of honesty, hard work and brilliance. An unusually gifted individual, he demonstrated boundless energy and passion for his work. With extraordinary creativity in the sciences and technology, he created futuristic concepts and systems around the world and founded 2020 Systems Engineering, where he assembled and led an international software development company. Motivated by his sense of accomplishment in creating a legacy of brilliant technological contributions, John was known for his problem- solving ability and joy in thinking out of the box on all subjects. John was a free spirit, a person of warmth, compassion, spirituality, and unusual generosity. He was a gentle person, with a kind word for all and a true sense of wit. Lighting up a room with his energy, knowledge and joie de vie, he traveled widely and loved music, biking, roller blading, snowboarding, scuba diving, basketball and working out at the gym. He believed in health in body, mind and spirit and professed these virtues to family and friends throughout his life. A person of strong principles and integrity, John was totally devoted to his family, with profound admiration for his parents and unwavering support for his siblings. All those who knew John fully understood that his greatest joy was his time with his daughter Natalie. He showed enormous pride in Natalie's academic accomplishments as a female scientist and her bright future in creating her own legacy. The early passing of John from this world leaves a great void and deep sadness for all who knew and loved him, but the example of his life and the beautiful memories are his gifts to all of us.
