Jenny Koulouris's Obituary

Jenny Koulouris (Lingos) of Boxborough, Mass. and Popponesset Beach, formerly of Belmont, Mass., passed away April 18, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas A. Koulouris.

Jenny was born to George and Stamatia Lingos and was the youngest of four, who all predeceased her: John Lingos, Charles Lingos and Bessie Prasinos.

Jenny grew up in Somerville, Mass., where she graduated from Somerville High School in 1948 and Boston University's College of Practical Arts and Letters in 1952. Jenny started her teaching career at Norton High School and later taught at Lasell Junior College in Newton, Mass. where she was an Assistant Professor in Business Administration. She earned her master's degree in Business Education from Suffolk University while teaching at Lasell.

While attending B.U., Jenny worked part-time at The Homestead Restaurant in Cambridge, a family business. There she met another employee, Nick Koulouris. Jenny and Nick fell in love, got married and moved to Belmont, where their four children, Thomas, Susan, Linda and Amy, were born and raised. In 1962, they bought a second home in Popponesset Beach, where they spent many happy summers. After retirement, Jenny and Nick spent 5 months a year in Popponesset, where they enjoyed the Cape in its quieter seasons.

Jenny was known as "Yiayia" to her beloved grandchildren Alexandra Shea, Nicholas Sarcia and Matthew Sarcia and nothing made Yiayia smile more than spending time with them. When they were babies, Yiayia was happiest when she was holding them or playing with them. When her grandchildren grew older, Yiayia loved doing crafts, playing cards and board games with them, and attending their school events and sports games. Yiayia always kept special ice cream treats and tiropita in her freezer, a jar of Nutella in her kitchen cabinet and her candy bowl full for her grandchildren to raid when they visited.

Jenny loved candlepin bowling and for years played in a league with the Seniors from St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville. She formed friendships with fellow bowlers and looked forward to Mondays when she would bowl in Falmouth with them. While on the Cape, Jenny attended church at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Cotuit, Mass., where she volunteered for fundraising events.

Jenny adored her family and was known for making the most delicious finikia and tiropites, as well as for her impeccable penmanship. She cherished her family and friends and was proud to be part of the Greek-American community. She will be sorely missed but we are thankful to have had such an amazing and loving mother, yiayia and friend in our lives and she will remain in our hearts forever.

Jenny is survived by her four children and three grandchildren; Thomas Koulouris of Lexington, Mass., Susan Koulouris of Medford, Mass.; Linda and Paul Shea and their daughter Alexandra of Ayer, Mass.; and Amy and Richard Sarcia and their boys Nicholas and Matthew of Lexington, Mass.
