Jean Marie Butler

Jean Marie Butler, 82, a lifelong resident of Waltham, Massachusetts, passed away on September 25, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Jean was born in Waltham on August 27, 1944, the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret (Connearney) Ranucci. Raised in Waltham, Jean was a woman of strong Catholic faith and attended St. Charles High School.

Above all else, Jean was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter, and there was nothing more important to her than the people she loved. She was the kind of mother who always put her family first and the kind of Nana whose love, strength, humor, and kindness left an unforgettable mark on her grandchildren and family.

Jean was kind, funny, smart, strong, and deeply loving. She was truly one of a kind and, to her grandchildren, simply the best Nana anyone could ask for.

Anyone who knew Jean also knew how much she loved to gamble. Whether she was playing bingo or doing her lottery numbers, she always enjoyed the excitement and fun of trying her luck. It was one of the many things that made Jean uniquely herself and brought her so much enjoyment throughout her life.

Jean spent many years working as a nanny and housekeeper for families in Weston, Massachusetts. Later in life, she worked as a cashier at Star Market before eventually retiring. No matter where she worked, Jean brought with her the same warmth, humor, and kindness that she showed to her family and friends.

Jean was the beloved mother of Roy Butler of Waltham; Lisa Bythewood of Waltham; Deborah Kelley and her husband, David, of Waltham; Jean Westover and her husband, Lane, of Bridgewater; and Margaret Calore and her husband, Peter, of Waltham.

Of all the titles Jean held throughout her life, “Nana” was one of the ones she treasured most. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and she loved each of them deeply and unconditionally. She was the cherished grandmother of Jordan Kelley; Peter and Adrianna Calore; Tanya and Melissa Butler; and Shawn ,Bryan and Kevin Bythewood; and the loving great-grandmother of Cole Bythewood.

Jean was the beloved sister of Anthony Ranucci and his wife, Anne Marie, of Marlborough; Richard Ranucci and his wife, Karen, of Athol; Charlene Cormier and her husband, Frank, of Dennis; Margaret Pittorino, wife of the late Joseph Pittorino, of Acton; Karen Maines and her husband, Stephen, of Mashpee; and Pamela Roche and her husband, Richard, of Acton.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Frigault, Joseph Ranucci, William Ranucci, Patricia Aucoin, and Lorraine Allain. She was also the former wife of the late Roy Butler.

Jean is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Jean will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her sense of humor, her love of family, and the countless memories she created throughout her 82 years. Her family was the center of her world, and the love she gave so freely will continue to live on through all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jean’s life by gathering for calling hours at The Faggas Funeral Home, 553 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, MA, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Family and friends will gather again at the funeral home on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 920 Trapelo Road, Waltham, MA, where Jean’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.

Memorial donations in Jean’s name may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 90 Wells Ave., Newton, Massachusetts.
