James John
Seremetis
June 17, 1932 – February 19, 2024
James John Seremetis, 91, of Wareham MA, formerly of West Roxbury MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Susan Nikias Seremetis, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He is survived by his two beloved sisters, Ekaterini and Anastasia - both in Greece - his sons John of Burlington MA, Christopher of Franklin MA, and Kostas of Hudson NY, their wives Paula, Theodora, and Antigone, respectively. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren - Demetra, Sophia, Elena, and Dimitri. James grew up in the small village of Krokees, Laconia Greece. Along with his family, he endured the horrors on WW2 as a young child, as well as the Greek Civil War that followed. At the age of 19 he immigrated to Syracuse NY in pursuit of the American Dream. He was supported by his uncles and cousins there as he sought his US Citizenship. He served the US Military in Fort Sill Oklahoma from 1954 to 1956. He returned to Greece to visit family, where he met Susan in early November 1965, quickly fell in love and married her in Sparti Greece the following December. They eventually settled in Boston MA where he worked as a car salesman at the now defunct Pontiac Village, and subsequently in the Auto Body Repair industry. With the help of his cousins Diane and Ferd Arenella, he opened Glenville Auto Body in Allston MA, in 1967. Glenville Auto Body became the source of both his livelihood and the source of countless friendships. The business flourished and James' reputation for fair dealing and customer service would be an immense source of pride. Through the years, James and Susan raised a family in West Roxbury, sent their boys to private schools and Greek School. He loved boating in Boston Harbor, spending countless weekends fishing and cruising with friends. In 1980 James and Susan were able to purchase a second home in Wareham MA on Pinehurst Beach. There, his boating and fishing exploits expanded to include Blue Crab trapping. The house in Wareham became the center of their social lives as friends would frequently visit to enjoy the water, the sunsets, and the hospitality James and Susan would become famous for. They eventually retired in Wareham, and became friendly fixtures in the community where everyone knew Jimmy for his warmth, cheerful disposition and penchant for Martinis. His home had an open door policy to friends and neighbors. He would often host a lamb roast at his home to celebrate Greek Orthodox Easter, sometimes to the shock of the passers-by. James lived a full life, surrounded by devoted friends, in-laws, and of course his family. He enjoyed making wine, sharing the bottles with his friends. He cherished his Greek American community, held family and hard work as enduring values. James will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and his love of family. Services will be held Saturday, February 24 at St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Braintree. Visitation hours from 10-11, liturgy at 11am. He will be laid to rest at the Gardens at Gethsemane in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to St Catherine Greek Orthodox Church.
