Polichronidis
October 25, 1930 – November 5, 2023
Irini (Spanidis) Polichronidis, 93, of Roslindale, MA passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023. She was born in Nea Trapezounta, Katerini, Greece to Stavros and Maria V. (Georgiadis) Spanidis.
She attended school in Greece and at the age of 16, after getting her sewing diploma from Thessaloniki, she began sewing for her own customers and teaching sewing lessons to many girls using patterns (patròn). She was a meticulous and talented seamstress.
She married Michael Polichronidis, and had two daughters, Zoe and Hope. In 1969, they came to America with their children and made their home in Roslindale, MA. In 1981, they opened Roslindale Fish Market which offered fresh fish, Greek cheeses, olives and an array of Greek imported foods. After Michael got sick, their daughter Hope and her husband Peter Bregianos continued to run the store.
Irini traveled to Greece every year to vacation and visit her family and friends until her health declined and she was unable to travel.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandson. She enjoyed cooking Greek delicacies for her family and friends and she loved to sew.
She was a devout Orthodox Christian and loved her beloved St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Roslindale.
She was the beloved wife of the late husband Michael Polichronidis. Devoted mother of Zoe Halatsis, and Hope Bregianos and her husband Peter. Cherished yiayia of Dimitri Halatsis, Mihali Halatsis, Georgia Bregianos Wong and her husband Dennis and their son Alexander, Vasilis Bregianos and his wife Ipsita, and Irini Bregianos. Mother-in-law of the late Vasilios Halatsis. Sister of the late Maria Panopoulos, the late Sophia Malezas, the late Stilianos Spanidis, and the late Anna Bakolas. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends here and in Greece.
Funeral Services and burial will take place in Nea Trapezounta, Katerini, Greece. A memorial service will be held at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Roslindale, MA at a later date.
