Obituary

Helen Kalton Pappas, 80, died peacefully, Tuesday, September 21st at her home in Waltham, Mass. after a lengthy battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and more recently Merkel Cell Carcinoma. Nicknamed "Tootsie", she was born in Somerville, MA in 1930 to John & Nora (Chakalis) Katsoulis . Helen graduated from Lesley College in 1952, with a degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating, she moved to Norwalk, CT to teach. In 1959 she met and married Charles A. Pappas, and moved to Weston, MA where they raised their four children. Helen was very active in many charities throughout Massachusetts, and Palm Beach, Florida. She was President of the Thomas Anthony Pappas Charitable Foundation, and the Bessie Pappas Charitable Foundation. Helen touched many lives with her warmth and generosity. She was gentle, charming, graceful and elegant. Grateful for everything she had, she was always smiling, happy and optimistic. She never let adversity get her down and never complained about anything. She always said everything was "Wonderful!". She was an avid reader, and bridge player and enjoyed spending time in the Bahamas with her many friends. Her true passion was her family, which she cherished deeply. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Pappas. She is survived by her four children: Betsy Demirjian & her husband Stephen of Weston, MA, Thomas C. Pappas of Bourne, MA , Sophia Sacher and her husband Andrew of Wellesley, MA and John C. Pappas & his wife Leslie of South Hamilton, MA. She is also survived by 6 beautiful grandchildren: Alexa and Timmy Demirjian, Chase Pappas, Alex and AJ Sacher and Liahna Pappas. Sister of Mary Sarandis & her husband George, Andrew Kalton & his wife Pauline, Joyce Karimbakas & her husband Chris and the late Harry Kalton. Sister in law of Dorothy Kalton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA at 11am. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Merkel Cell Research Fund in Memory of Helen K. Pappas, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226. Burial will be private. Thank you to all of the nurses and other angels who helped Helen on her journey. We are forever grateful.
