Helen was a graduate of Katie Gibbs Secretarial School, and in her youth and marriage before her first child, she worked as an executive secretary to a Vice President of the John Hancock Insurance Company of Boston. She provided administrative assistance from home to her husband Charles in his Boston law practice from the late 1960s until his retirement in the mid-1990s.
