Helen Alex

Helen (Fortounes) Alex, 97, of Boston passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Charles G. Alex, with whom she shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, and the devoted daughter of the late Vasilios and Sotiria Fortounes. Cherished mother of Susan Alex-Barton and her husband David Alex-Barton, and her son George Alex and his wife Minnie Kwon; and the loving grandmother of Charles Alex-Barton and Garnet Alex-Barton. Helen was born on May 11, 1928 in her beloved Vassara, Greece, and she valued her deep and lasting ties to her birthplace. She was an avid reader, an entrepreneur, an enthusiastic theatergoer, a fan of the Boston Red Sox, and a skilled card player, but was above all devoted to her family and friends. She was a marvelous cook and enjoyed nothing more than welcoming loved ones to her home to share her hospitality. She maintained special relationships with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who knew her as a precious and constant source of familial love and comfort. Her warmth, wit, humor, and strength left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Visitation will take place at Faggas Funeral Home on Thursday, May 7, 2026 from 12-2 p.m., with burial to be private.
