George P. Righellis, of Waltham, Watertown, and Falmouth, MA, passed away peacefully ,in his sleep on December 13, 2018. George was known for playing guitar and performing Middle Eastern music as a lead guitarist and vocalist for over 65 years. He had a remarkable, innate ability and talent for music and never had any formal musical training. George's extraordinary musical skills were innovated and shaped his performances of Middle Eastern music. He was well-noted for being one of the first entertainers to introduce the guitar to Armenian music. His linguistic diversity as a singer includes songs performed in Greek, Armenian, Turkish and Arabic. whether George was playing at a club, concert hall, wedding, small event, or a random guest performance; bringing people together with his music, observing the happiness by others as they danced and sang along to his songs, was a significant motivation and inspiration for his successful, longstanding musical career. Beloved husband of Jean V. Shapazian Righellis. Beloved son of the late Peter and Penelope (Chiklakis) Righellis. Loving father of Peter Righellis and his wife Dragana, Julie (Righellis) Murtagh and her husband Kerry, and Athena Righellis. Dear step father of Kimberly and Heather Shapazian, Richard Shapazian and his wife Tobi, and Christian Shapazian and his wife Erica. Cherished grandfather of John Connor, Brian, Courtney, Skylar, Katerina, Natalia, Nikolas, Alexandra, Tyler, Reese, Ryan, Charlie, Amelia and Josephine. Brother of the late Strati Righellis, and Sophia Martakis. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral from the Faggas Funeral Home, 551 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, MA on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 9AM followed by Services in the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Ave., Watertown, MA at 10AM. Visiting hours on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2PM to 5PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
