George Sokrates Haras's Obituary

George Haras passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 18th, 2021 at the age of 62. Born in Athens, Greece on October 4th,1959, baptized as George Sokrates Papaharalambos to parents, Fotini Patsiokostas and Sokrates Papaharalambos. At the age of 7, he immigrated to the United States with his family. He graduated from Watertown High School and attended East Coast Aero Tech. George was an avid entrepreneur and salesman with new business ventures always on the horizon, ranging from selling cutting edge technology to owning an exotic sports car dealership.

George was gifted: a creative storyteller, an expert contractor, and a successful businessman. He was passionate about cooking, gardening, and traveling. He was proud of his heritage and his home land. Most of all, he was deeply passionate about his family. He was a kindhearted, loving soul who would drop everything in a second in order to help those in need, even strangers. When George was 18, he took a vacation to the island of Skiathos. During his stay, the island caught on fire. He was one of the first to volunteer to drive through the flames to rescue residents trapped in their homes.

George's magnetic personality would light up any room. He loved pulling pranks and joking with his nieces and nephews at family gatherings. To them, he was "Funny Theo" ("Funny Uncle"), because of his hilarious wit and unfiltered sense of humor.

He came to love his wife's Filipino culture, planning to eventually retire with her in her home country of the Philippines. He was loved by all of her family and friends. He couldn't wait to go back.

George is survived by his mother, Fotini Patsiokostas and her husband John Macaris, as well as his sister, Aliki Pishev and her husband Bruce Stockdale; nephews and niece: Ilia, Christopher, and Arianna Pishev. George is also survived by his devoted wife, Marissa Dibona and stepdaughters: Gladys Pua, Charisse Manuel, and Jamie de Guzman; step grandchildren: Nicole, Andre, Ily, Angelica, Ethan, Scarlet, and Selene. He loved his stepdaughters with all of his heart.

George will be deeply missed but his legacy of optimism, humor, and kindness will live on through his family and friends.
