George Hamizides, 98, of Arlington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 29th, surrounded by family. Born in Krimski, Russia, to the late Vasilios and Anastasia (Mouridou) Hamzides, his family later settled in Greece. In 1964, George immigrated to the United States with his wife, Chrisanthe, and their children, Maria and Vasilios, eventually making a home in Arlington where their daughter Anastasia was born.

George dedicated himself to supporting his family, working multiple jobs. A celebrated chef, he shared his culinary talents at several esteemed Boston restaurants, including The Athinia Taverna, the Acropolis, The Averof, and Peter's on Newbury Street. Known for his exquisite Greek dishes, he delighted countless patrons.

Family was the cornerstone of George’s life. He spent his free time with loved ones, generously providing help whenever needed. A passionate gardener, he shared his bountiful harvests widely. A devout Orthodox Christian, George was beloved by his community.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Chrisanthe, in 2018. Survived by daughters Maria Hamizides-Rombola and her husband Joseph, Anastasia Hamizides, and granddaughter Christina Romboli with her fiancé Paul, George also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends both here and in Greece.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10 AM at St. Athanasius the Great Greek Church, Arlington, MA. Visitation will take place from 9 AM to 10 AM prior to the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Athanasius Greek Church, 4 Appleton Street, Arlington, Massachusetts.
