Obituary

George Apazidis passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 26, 2015 after a short but courageous fight with cancer. George was born on November 12, 1934 to Ioannis and Anastasia Apazidis in Russia. Brother of Konstantinos Apazidis, the late Alexandros, the late Dimitrios and the late Nikolaos Apazidis and the late Despina Apazidis. His parents were born in Trapezounta. George lived in the beautiful Greek village of St. Lukas from 1941 until 1965 when he emigrated to the United States with his family as a proud Pontios. Enjoying a marriage of almost 60 years, George is survived by his wife Athina Apazidis, his children John and his wife Jenifer, Ekaterini and her husband Constantine, and Anastasia and her husband Efstratios. A caring and supportive Pappou, George has six grandchildren, Elizabeth and her fiancé Nicholas, Athina, Nikolaos, Evgenios, Athina and George. George had a great love for his work and spent his life in America helping those with big jobs and small. He walked quietly through this world, not creating a lot of noise with his steps, but leaving his footprint wherever he went. George had a love of Greek music; his passion started when he and his brothers opened a small cafeneio in their Greek village St. Lukas where they played music loudly and proudly for their customers. His love of music showed when he played his accordion at family parties and continued throughout his life. George enjoyed fishing, playing Tavli, and rediscovering his love for classic Greek music on YouTube. Living life simply and honestly was George, we should all be so lucky to go through life loving the work that we do, and the family that surrounds us. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's name to the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, MA or the American Cancer Society.
