Obituary

Froso "Efrosine" (Raftelis) Moskovis was born in Plomarion, Mitilene, on October 16, 1923,the second of five children, three girls and two boys, to Demetrios Raftelis and Maria (Coutlis) Raftelis. After her schooling, she became a seamstress. She married Peter Panagiotis' Moskovis, also from Mitilene, and came to the United States to start a new life. They settled in Boston, Massachusetts, where they lived in Brighton and summered in Buzzards Bay. After raising her family, she worked in the garment industry. Following her beloved husband's death, she moved to Hanover, where she lived with her son and his family for many years. Later, she moved to Buzzards Bay, after winterizing her summer home. She and her family were members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England, in Boston, Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cambridge, the Taxiarchae - Archangels Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, and Panagia Church in Cohasset. She loved God, the church, her family, and community. They were the focus of her life. She loved the Theotokos and Christ, praying daily at the prayer center in her room. As a young girl, she excelled in singing, especially in the choir, where she sang the hymns of the church. Her home was always filled with the sound of her beautiful singing, even up until the day she died. Motherhood was her true vocation. She was a selfless mother, always putting her family ahead of herself. It was the sacred role that she embraced and embodied, in true Christian fashion, all the days of her life. Her family, her beautiful grandchildren, and her extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins, brought her great happiness and joy. She also loved the Cape and her cottage, of which she would say, "Spiti mou, spitaki mou, spitokalivaki mou." It is situated in a small place called "Hideaway Village." It is very similar to any small Greek village, with narrow paths and homes on top of homes, like miniature doll houses. Everyone knows each other and looks out for one another. She would walk, greet neighbors, and pick flowers to mix with the flowers from her garden. Daily, she placed these flowers in a glass or vase; the sight and scent of those simple arrangements never failed to call home the beauty of God's nature and Providence and her great appreciation for it. She was happiest when working in her garden or just sitting there with her favorite, a Greek coffee. As she sat there, she would watch all the birds that flocked around to grace her garden. She enjoyed the simple things in life. Every week, she eagerly looked forward to receiving the Greek newspaper, which brought her news of her other "Patrida"; it brought her great comfort and a connection to her homeland. She was a pioneer woman, who bravely left everything she knew to start a new life in a foreign place - another country! She was strong and independent, often saying, "I am a strong woman!" Even to her last days, whenever anyone asked her how she was, she would respond, "I'm okay. I am a strong woman!" Creative and resourceful, she was ever young of spirit, with a generous and kind heart. She was an inspiration to her family and leaves a great legacy of loving memories and lessons of what is important in life. Following a fall that fractured her shoulder, she stayed with her daughter in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, while recuperating. She fell asleep in the Lord, peacefully, on June 5. We love you mother. May your memory be eternal. Froso "Efrosine" lived in Buzzards Bay, MA, formerly of Hanover, MA, and she passed away on June 5, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Peter Moskovis. Devoted mother of Angelo Moskovis and his wife Anastasia and Mary "Marion" Pappas and her husband James. Loving grandmother of Peter and Kassandra Moskovis and Petrina and Anthony Pappas.
