Dorothea (Matsas) Zevitas of Arlington died peacefully on April 23, 2026 just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Zevitas and the late Dr. Roger Mantsavinos.
Dottie, as she was known to her family and friends, grew up in Somerville and was predeceased by her three brothers, Donald, Peter, and Charles Matsas. She later raised her family in Belmont and Falmouth.
She was a devoted mother to Charles Mantsavinos and his wife, Edie, of Woburn; Marea Mullen and her husband, Bob, of Medford; and Alexa Adams and her husband, Kevin, of Marblehead. She was a loving Yia Yia to Alannah Mullen, Trent Mullen and his fiancée, Giulia, and Jack Adams, all of whom brought her endless joy and laughter.
A graduate of Somerville High School and Salem State College, Dottie formed lifelong friendships with a close-knit group they fondly called “Club.” She went on to earn her graduate degree from Northeastern University.
Dottie was a dedicated educator whose teaching career spanned New York and several Massachusetts public school systems, including Somerville, Wakefield, and Arlington. She also taught at the private school The Bartlett School, formerly located in Winchester.
Dottie was a devoted member of St. Athanasius Greek Church in Arlington for over 50 years, where she served as both a Sunday school teacher and director. She was also an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos, forming enduring friendships within the Greek community.
Dottie cherished her faith, her family, and her many dear friends. She held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, who brought her great happiness and many cherished memories.
