Demosthenes Marken's Obituary

Demosthenes Anthony Marken passed away surrounded by his family, on July 5th at the age of 84. The third son of the late Anthony G Marken from Megalopili, Greece and Newton, MA, and the late Sophie Karalekas, of New Bedford, MA.  Demo was a devoted father of 5 and grandfather to 6. He developed a passion for the food business at a young age while working for his father's produce company. He would go on to study agriculture at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He would launch his own small business and serve Cape Cod and the Islands. He believed deeply in service and was honorably discharged from the Army. A man of profound faith, he was a member of Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church of Hyannis, MA. He was proud of his service as a Shriner and member of the Massachusetts Freemasons Marine Lodge of Falmouth. Demo is survived by his children Melanie I. Marken of Woburn, MA, Charles D. Marken of Falmouth, MA and his partner Karin Donohoe, Anthony D. Marken and his wife Rebecca Marken of Lexington, MA, Hillary M. Cullen and her husband Ryan Cullen of Shrewsbury, MA, and Stephanie S Marken and her husband Brett Laduzinsky of Alexandria, VA, and by his six grandchildren, Ava  Marken, Tess  Marken, Summer Hooper, Evan Hooper, Reid Cullen and Pierce Cullen. He is also survived by his sister Katherine  D. Kriketos  and her late husband Nicholas S Kriketos of Arlington, MA, Charles A Marken and his wife Mina Marken of Southborough, MA, and his late brother George A Marken and his wife Kathleen P Marken of Falmouth, MA, and his first wife Madeleine Contis  Marken of Falmouth, MA and second wife Pamela J Marken of Nantucket, MA. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 29 at St Athanasuis Greek Orthodox, 4 Appleton St, Arlington, MA at 10:30AM. Visiting hours will be at 9:00AM- 10:30AM.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Boston.
