Costas
Belezos
February 7, 1930 – June 14, 2023
Costa Belezos died peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2023. Costas was born in a small village in Peloponnesos, Greece called Kollines. He left at a young age to go work in Athens as Greece was devastated after World War II. He subsequently served in the Greek Navy after the war as a minesweeper. Later on, he joined the Merchant Marines, where he traveled the world and went on to learn to speak four languages. Upon his release of service from the Merchant Marines he moved to Boston and worked in factories. In 1956, he met the love of his life Acimo. They would've been married 67 years on July 1. Having the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, Costas wanted to run his own business so in 1965 he bought a Boston taxicab medallion which he operated for 46 years until his retirement and 2011 at the age of 81. He had the cleanest cab in the City of Boston, and won numerous awards for cab driver of the month and cab driver of the year. He picked up many dignitaries, as well as different Mayors of Boston. He was the only Spanish and Portuguese speaking driver in the 1960s and he would get called upon in to provide service for Spanish and Portuguese passengers. Even with very little formal training, he was able to master these languages. He was an avid singer and dancer, and at a moment's notice would dance the Greek Zeibekiko, well into his 90's. He would regale his grandchildren with stories of his travels and adventures. He had a contagious laughter and would not let you leave his house if you didn't have something to eat or drink.
Beloved husband of Acimo (Tomarakos) Belezos. Devoted father of Phyllis Kombouras, Louis Belezos and his wife Penelope, and Petro Belezos and his wife Claudia of Weston.
